Appearance:
Tall at 5'11" and somewhat gangly, Soma Cruz is an interesting specimen. With white hair and red eyes, one could almost consider him an albino, an effect encouraged by his tendency to wear light colors. Seldom is he seen without his long, white trenchcoat, its furred collar jutting up prominently around his neck. Beneath, he wears blue jeans, a pair of belts (presumably, the lower-slung one is dedicated to carrying his blade), and a black turtleneck sweater. Boots of white leather, braced in the back by metalic plates, cover his feet. His coat and boots are edged in blue, with gold accents.
Soma is possessed of a narrow face, his nose slightly smaller than is natural and his lips thin. His ears are usually concealed by his hair, a short fall of pure white coming just short of his shoulders. His shoulders are about average, nothing to write home about. That's fairly true of the rest of him as well; he's rather wirey, to be honest. But don't let his lack of mass fool you, Soma is a strong person.
Personality
Soma is a whimsical young man who's been through some pretty terrifying stuff, not least of which was learning that he was the reincarnation of Dracula himself. He can be a bit dense when it comes to certain subjects - relationships, for one - but he has an otherwise sharp mind, honed by years of worldwide travel and study.
He's slow to anger, chivalrous, and very loyal to his friends. He has, in the years since the initial discovery, become accustomed to the idea that he holds the power of Dracula in his grasp. That doesn't mean it can't still get to him; the count still wants out, after all, even if Soma isn't willing to be his vessel.
Strengths/Abilities:
Soma's primary ability - the reason he -has- any others - is his ability to absorb and thus command the souls of fallen foes. He does not do this consciously, except under extreme circumstances, and this can make for some rather awkward situations. At the present time, he possesses a number of different souls, but cannot use more than three (one of each type, as divided by the chart in his profile) at any given time.
Soma is skilled in the use of a wide variety of weapons, but none so much as the broadsword. His current blade, Kaladbolg, is said to have the power to cleave mountains in the right hands. Soma, however, does not possess those hands; it's simply a holy blade, unbreakable but not ultimately powerful.
Weaknesses:
Repeated use of most of Soma's abilities slowly erodes his sanity. Also, many of them leave him physically weakened afterward (an extreme example being the Black Panther soul, which will render him unconscious if used for more than a minute). Being that his abilities are derived from Dracula's own dark essence, Soma's heart could be said to possess a large amount of darkness of its own - certainly enough to attract the ire of the mysterious Lumens, and the Heartless themselves.
History:
Julius Belmont destroyed Dracula in the year 1999, as his ancestors had many times before, and would many times after. The dark lord always found a way to reincarnate, once every 100 years. This time, he chose four vessels: Soma Cruz, Graham Jones, Dario, and Dmitri. One of them would become the next Dracula.
But Soma did not know this.
Indeed, Soma Cruz lived a rather normal, subdued life, travelling to various places around the world (including much of Europe and Japan). While attending school in Japan, Soma Cruz and his not-quite-girlfriend Mina Hakubi visited her family shrine. While there, Soma and Mina were overcome by vertigo during a solar eclipse... and woke to find themselves at the gates of Dracula's own castle.
Soma, acting on some inner instinct as well as advice from such luminaries as Genya Arikado (Alucard, Dracula's son), Julius Belmont (the Hunter who destroyed Dracula), Yoko Belnades (descendant of the same Belnades who assisted one of Julius' ancestors), and a man known only as Hammer, made his way deep into the castle and confronted a young man named Graham Jones. A missionary turned demon wannabe, Graham proceeded to try and end Soma's life - for the simple reason that Soma possessed the power to control demons, just as Graham could. In the end, Soma wound up killing Graham and then proceeding deeper still into Castlevania, along the way becoming Dracula himself... almost. The intervention of his friends kept Soma from going over the edge long enough for him to confront the source of the dark energy flowing into him.
To make a long story short, Soma killed an entity of pure chaos which was corrupting Soma's own power. With that, Castlevania fell to pieces, and Soma and company were delivered safely back to earth. For a year, all was peaceful once more.
A radical group of cultists, operating on the idea that, for there to be a supreme force of good there must in turn be a supreme source of evil, set about trying to turn Soma into Dracula once more. Through a powerful working of magic, the cult's leader (a woman known as Celia) resurrected Castlevania. Within its halls, Soma faced off against Dario (a man with the ability to copy magic used against him) and Dmitrii (a powerful pyrokinetic).
Although he vanquished both of them, Dario somehow managed to send his own soul into Soma's body... and eventually got it back out again, to inhabit the body of a Doppleganger, after copying Soma's ability to control the souls of demons.
Soma once again defeated Dario, destroying him and the resurrected Castlevania alongside one another with the help (once again) of his friends.
And then, there was Paixao. Soma spent several months in the domed city, and though there were no monsters to fight as such, his time therein was nearly as traumatic as his days fighting the demons of Dracula's castle. By the time he had left, he had found, lost, and found Mina again; the final time, he presented her with a ring.
For Soma Cruz, a year has passed. A year in which he has learned to cope with the dark nature of his power, even as that power lay dormant. And yet, he still felt that his business in the city was unfinished...
